sports therapy

Sports medicine involves a comprehensive team of health care professionals trained in a variety of backgrounds to include physicians, exercise physiologists, athletic trainers, biomechanists, nutritionists, and physical therapists. Sports physical therapy emphasizes the prevention, identification, assessment, minimization, and correction of pain and disability associated with injuries sustained in athletic endeavors and problems that affect sport performance. The goal of treatment is to maximize participation and performance.

A physical therapist may use a variety of interventions to prevent and treat sports related injuries, which include but are not limited to: pre-participation screening, cardiovascular, resistance, endurance and neuromuscular re-education exercise programs, taping and bracing, sports specific ergonomic and training regimens, manual physical therapy and orthopaedic physical therapy. In addition to prevention and recovery, intervention to maximum performance includes a focus on improving speed, agility, explosiveness, balance and coordination.

Who Will Benefit?

Although football and basketball athletes immediately come to mind and are frequently seen, many other types of athletes also benefit tremendously. Some of these athletes that are less commonly thought of include golfers, rodeo, bikers and performing artists (music and dance), as well as bow-hunters!! In fact, whether it is baseball to football and basketball, gardening, ranching, or golf, we can help you get to the top of your game!
